But the island nation was off-limits to American tourists for three decades from after the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro until the early 1990s when Americans began to travel to Cuba on "People-to-People" cultural exchange tours. "Cuba, Libre?” a feature-length documentary by travel writer Dick Jordan about travel by Americans to Cuba, includes historic film footage of Cuba in the early to mid-20th century, the revolution led by Fidel Castro and the break in diplomatic ties between Cuba and the United States, film and photos from more recent times, and interviews of five travel writers who have visited Cuba during the last twenty years.

    Jonathan Pride (Charles Collins) is a dance teacher from Boston on his way to visit relatives in Los Angeles. His ship takes him around South America, where it's attacked by pirates. Pride is forced to work aboard their ship as a servant. He makes his escape when the ship docks on the California coast, but he realizes the local mayor (Frank Morgan) and his daughter (Steffi Duna) think he's a pirate captain. Pride's attempts to explain who he really is only lead to more confusion.
